Should you "Go Natural"?

I can't believe it's been three years since I sat in a stylist chair and told her I was going natural and wanted to do "the Big Chop. That was March 8, 2013. Seems like just a few months ago.

Since going natural I have had a view subscribers ask if they too should take the pluge and go natural. My answer remains the same: I don't know.

Me, the next day after I Big Chopped

I realize most naturals would probably have a different response than mine and talk about the benefits of being natural. But, everyone is different and going natural isn't right for everyone. Some naturals go back to relaxing their hair. I think it's important to remember not to judge others just because sothing was right for YOU wasn't right for them.

Honestly speaking, I'm not sure if I would have gone natural if my relax hair hadn't been breaking off.

I see lots of beautiful women on Youtube with healthy relax hair and I see lots of women rockin' their natural coils and curls.

My freshly washed relaxed hair

I can respect anyone who does their research and makes a decision that's right for them and not based in peer pressure or what seems to be in. So if going natural is the route you choose I'm happy to share my experiences with you and if if not that's ok too.

I have learn a lot about different techniques and products from both naturalistas and those who choose to relax their hair. Yes, this girls who has natural hair has picked up tip or two from someone who chooses to relax their hair.

I love rocking a good wig!!!

Going natural won't insure that you won't have bad hair days...I have had many. But I can say FOR ME, this was the right choice. My hair was breaking and was unhealthy. Trying to maintain my relax hair was causing me to lose my hair. I knew I had to do something.

My hair in it's TWA (Teeny Weenie Afro) stage

So I chopped my hair and decided to start anew. Was I nervous that my husband would be attracted to my new do or my daughter who was two at the time wouldn't recognize me.......YES, but I knew I had to do my big chop to save my hair. Thankfully, hubby and daughter were on board.

I love to mix it up and play with wigs. This doesn't mean I don't love my naturally coily hair. Wigs have actually haelp maintain my length cause it gives my hair a break, while allowing me to play with other styles.

My hair today!!!

So should you go natural? I don't know. I can say, do your research and keeping HEALTHY hair has a goal will halp you make the best the decision for YOU.
